Think-Collect-Go: Awareness Campaign - Existing Privacy and Data Collection Regulations
This campaign focused on raising awareness of the existing privacy regulations of data collection and privacy preservation. The campaign started with a one day event in Cairo, Egypt Which included talks and discussions regarding privacy awareness and cybersecurity. It included a talk about the challenges organizations and individuals face in adhering to evolving privacy regulations and the pivotal role of education, training, and technology in closing the gap between what is legally mandated and what is practically achievable.
The session had 75 participants (49M, 26 F), 61 were Bachelor students, 10 M.Sc. students, and 4 Ph.D. holders. It also highlighted the global dimension of this issue, acknowledging the diversity of regulatory frameworks across nations and the imperative of developing a unified approach to privacy awareness and cybersecurity.
PrivateTech - Workshop series on state-of-the-art privacy-preservation technologies
Two workshops were conducted in Germany under this activity. The first workshop was a 1 day event that covered topics such as Introduction to Privacy Regulations, Privacy Engineering, as well as, Privacy Enhancing Technologies. The workshop had 36 participants (20M, 16F) with 35 of them being B.Sc. students and 1 M.Sc. student. It served as a foundation for privacy-preservation technologies and allowed the participants to gain a holistic overview of the topic.
The second workshop was done as a 3 day event that featured technical sessions introducing cutting-edge privacy-preservation technologies such as Multi-Party Computation, Homomorphic Encryption, and Zero-knowledge Proofs. In total, 19 students attended the event (13M, 6F) 17 B.Sc. and 2 M.Sc. students. The workshop provided hands-on sessions on privacy engineering and privacy-preservation technologies. Additionally, students presented some of their work and received feedback from the experts.
PrAIvate - Privacy Preserving AI Research Cluster (Initiation)
An interdisciplinary research cluster between the partner universities in Germany and Egypt was established. Within the cluster, 7 B.Sc. theses were supervised under different research directions related to privacy-preserving AI.
